YEREVAN. – At all times the Armenian woman has had her part in an important event in Armenia’s history, the ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia MP Karine Achemyan said during a press conference on Saturday.

In her words, the Armenian woman plays a great role in the sociopolitical life. “We must pass that difficult road—the parliamentary elections—without smearing one another, in a peaceful and quiet environment,” the MP stated.

In her turn, opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party MP Ruzan Arakelyan noted that, aside from the man-woman ratio in Armenia’s National Assembly, the women are able to carry out lively activities in several domains and reach success. “Gender debases woman’s image in Armenian politics. The Armenian woman has played a considerable role, and very often she does a greater work than men,” Arakelyan noted.

And opposition Heritage Party MP Anahit Bakhshyan said the number of women in the parliament is irrelevant. “What’s important is not the quantity, but the quality,” she maintained.

The speakers also noted that, with their lives and moral character, the women must serve an example for the society by bringing along tolerance and the ability to smoothen the sharp edges in politics.
