YEREVAN.- Parliamentary elections held on May 6 were the most democratic and transparent elections ever held in Armenia, head of OSCE Yerevan Office, Ambassador Andrey Sorokin told reporters.

The event was dedicated to the implementation of a program to promote holding of free, transparent and democratic elections.

A 1.7 million euro project was funded by the EU and implemented by the OSCE. The project’s aim is promoting elections in 2012 and 2013.

He said the OSCE/ODIHR report mainly focused on lack of public confidence in the elections. Ambassador Sorokin recalled that the actions of EU and OSCE are aimed at improving technical part and raising public awareness, and, as a consequence, developing trust.

Asked about election bribes, Sorokin recalled that on the eve of elections the General Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement saying a person reporting about a deal or a bribe is exempt from liability.
