Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, who is in Belgium on a working visit, on Tuesday met with Italian Minister of Defence, Ms. Roberta Pinotti, and discussed Armenian-Italian bilateral military cooperation.

The Italian side highly appreciated Armenia’s participation in the operations toward the maintenance of international peace and stability.

The interlocutors also conferred on regional and international security issues. In this context, Armenia’s defense minister gave a high assessment to Italy’s constructive and balanced approach toward regional matters.

At the end of the talk, the defense ministers of the two countries signed a technical agreement between the MODs of Armenia and Italy, and with respect to cooperation and assistance within the framework of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The agreement will regulate the procedures whereby an Armenian peacekeeping platoon will be included in the UNIFIL Italian brigade.
