A decision has been reached in connection with the military service of Hakob Injighulyan.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned that, after studying Injighulyan’s health records, the professional committee decided that he is subject to military service and he will continue his service in the Armenian Armed Forces.

We also have learned, however, that there are still pending legal matters with respect to harassment against Injighulyan in Azerbaijan, and that he will resume his military service once these matters are cleared.

On the night of August 8, 2013, Armenian soldier Hakob Injighulyan (born in 1991) had gotten lost and found himself in the territory under the control of Azerbaijan. He was taken to the Azerbaijani capital city Baku the next day. The ICRC was able to first meet with the Armenian prisoner of war on August 20. In addition, Injighulyan was made to wear Azerbaijani military uniform and give several “interviews.”

The soldier was held captive in Azerbaijan for more than a year, subsequently transferred to a third country, and he ultimately returned to Armenia on October 2, 2014.

The former captive had told reporters that the Azerbaijanis had threatened to shoot him if he expressed a wish to return to his homeland.

Hakob Injighulyan also had stated that he plans to carry out the remaining nine months of his military service in the Armenian Armed Forces.
