YEREVAN. - Till the end of 2016, a Greek consulting company may complete the preparation of proposals on management of two landfills in Yerevan, First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Karo Areyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am Tuesday. 

In his words, the proposals on Nubarashen landfill in southern Yerevan and the one in Ajapnyak district will be prepared.  The conclusion on the possibility of construction of a biogas and waste disposal plants may also be confirmed. “I don’t know what exactly the Greek consultants will recommend in the end: they have just started the work. [Besides,] they have little time and something might be ready already by the end of the year,” Areyan said.   

The Nubarashen landfill is modernized by the funding of European institutions. The overall funding is 24 mln euro: 8 mln loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and European Investment Bank each and 8 mln grant from the European Neighborhood Investment Policy Tool. The means will be allocated for the construction of 2 of 5 new landfills.
