Visits of Medvedev and Gul to the South Caucasus attract attention. It is not clear whether these visits are parallel steps taken by Ankara and Moscow to solve regional problems or something like a “shoot-out”, said Turkish expert Mehmet Perincek. According to him, the main goal of U.S. is Central Asia and to pursue this goal Washington has to “bring Russia to its knees”.

The expert also touched upon the Karabakh peace process. Referring to the Russian special services, the expert said that U.S. offered Yerevan to recognize Karabakh’s independence in return to withdrawal of Russian bases from Armenia, Novosti Azerbaijan reported. It is the reason for further development of relations between Armenia and Russia, he said.

“Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Yerevan and prolongation of Russian military presence in Armenia can be termed as a counterattack against these attempts. The U.S. Congress decision as of December 2009 on allocation $8 m to Karabakh is the first signal. Russia plans to shift balance of power in favor of Azerbaijan. This situation enables Azerbaijan to pull Russia on its side,” Perincek stated.
