The US’ blockade of Iranian ports means Iran will likely encounter significant difficulties in the global export of its goods, CNN reports.
This will have knock-on effects on the buyers of Iranian products. These include China, Turkey, India and Pakistan, who collectively imported billions of dollars worth of goods from Iran in 2023, according to data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC)
Armenia and Azerbaijan were also large importers of Iranian goods in 2024, according to the OEC.
Iran’s top exports in 2024 were ethylene polymers and iron ore, the OEC said, alongside acyclic alcohol derivatives and petroleum gas.
