The number of people who were forced to leave their homes due to floods in southern Brazil has exceeded 300 thousand. This was reported by the civil protection service of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, which is located on the border with Argentina and Uruguay.

As of 6pm Thursday, 327,105 people were forced to leave their homes, and 68,519 people were placed in shelters. In total, 1.7 million people were affected by the floods.

According to the latest data, at least 107 people were killed and 754 others were injured. And 134 residents are considered missing.

Hospitals in the cities of Rio Grande do Sul have stopped non-emergency operations, the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper reports.
