I am a dual citizen. I have a Canadian passport that I received during spiritual service there. This was announced by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, Primate of the Diocese of Tavush of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

"I had neither such an ambition nor desire, also because of the principles,” Archbishop Galstanyan said in connection with some demands that he be nominated an Armenian PM candidate. “At the same time, I am a dual citizen, which I have never hidden. The Canadian passport was given to me when I was in spiritual service in Canada for ten years. And now I am in the most difficult places in Armenia for this very purpose.

There is a yellow newspaper, Haykakan Zhamanak (…). They wrote: ‘Bishop Bagrat has no rights, he is a dual citizen.’ (…). Bishop Bagrat is the spiritual leader of the Diocese of Tavush, higher than the seat of your prime minister. [But] if the people want [it], and the Armenian Patriarch will bless [it], who am I to say no? But I don't want to," declared Archbishop Galstanyan.

On May 4, the Tavush for the Motherland movement had started a march, led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, from Kirants border village of Tavush Province to Yerevan, and this march reached the Armenian capital Thursday. Those who have joined this movement are against the Armenian authorities’ policy of unilateral concessions to Azerbaijan.
