YEREVAN. – According to the ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) circles, following the National Assembly (NA) elections RPA Campaign Headquarters Chief—and former NA Speaker—Hovik Abrahamyan will assume the office of the National Security Council Secretary, Hraparak daily writes.   

“This position is currently held by the [coalition’s Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law) Party] RLP Chairman Arthur Baghdasaryan. They say he will be promoted after the elections. There are rumors, for already a long time, that Baghdasaryan is the main contender for the post of Armenia’s Prosecutor General. And following the elections [President] Serzh Sargsyan intends to dismiss [current Prosecutor General] Aghvan Hovsepyan.    

Our sources also say that the office of the National Security Council Secretary will be an interim for Abrahamyan. Abrahamyan could hold this post until the presidential elections [next year], after which he could expect a more entrenched and long-lasting appointment within the state governance system,” Hraparak writes.
