YEREVAN. – There are no price shocks this year in Armenia prior to Easter, Armenian Consumers’ Association Chairman Armen Poghosyan said during a press conference on Saturday. 

He informed that the egg prices not only did not increase, but they even reduced in some supermarkets. As per Poghosyan, one egg is now sold for AMD 50-60 (approx. 13-15 US cents) in stores. But, according to him, the small producers in the egg market are being eliminated, and the market’s monopoly is growing.    

In his turn, the “Protection of Consumers’ Rights” NGO Vice Chairman Karen Chilingaryan likewise confirmed that the egg prices have not increased in Armenia, but noted that green vegetable prices have increased instead. And as per Chilingaryan, this is a result of the villagers’ mentality.   

But according to him, the country’s market has other problems. As case in point, Iranian dates are being sold with double labels, which is a violation of the law.
