"The escalation around Syria causes a serious threat to the interests and security of Russia," former Pentagon official Michael Milouf said.

"The situation around Syria causes only one essential problem for Moscow. As a result, Moscow has started the modernization of its military base in Armenia fearing from the crisis in the Middle East, which can engage the whole Middle East from Syria to Iran," Milouf said adding if the Syrian opposition will not get calmer, Russia may seriously worry about its objectives in that state.

The U.S. official believes that Russia better to support the UN Resolution on Syria, stressing that it is yet unclear who supports the Syrian opposition and its is not possible to deal with the situation from the inside.
