The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled in favor of the lawsuit, which was filed against Turkey, by the family of a seven-year-old student who had died in 2004 as a result of heavy snowfall and strong winds.  

On January 22, 2004, the aforesaid student of an Istanbul school had gone to the bus stop and waited for the public transport bus. But the latter had not arrived, and therefore the child attempted to reach home on foot. Because of heavy snowfall and strong winds, however, the child had frozen to death on the way. And the child’s family accused the Istanbul City Hall and the National Education Ministry for the death, the Turkish Dunyabulteni website informs.          

And now, the ECHR found Turkey guilty and ordered it to pay 54,500 euros as compensation to the dead child’s family
