Representatives of the Football Federation of Iran will not attend the FIFA Congress in Canada, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported, citing the “inappropriate behavior of immigration services” at Toronto airport.
According to the agency, three federation representatives arrived with visas to participate in the event but were soon forced to return on the next available flight. The federation president and deputy secretary general reportedly returned to Turkey after an incident involving border authorities and an alleged “insult to one of Iran’s armed forces branches.”
No further details were provided.
The FIFA Congress is taking place this week in Vancouver. Canada, together with the United States and Mexico, will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
