Armenia and Georgia will jointly host the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
At the Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government, referring to this important event, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan informed that, according to the preliminary plan, the competition will be held in September-October 2029. According to her, during those days Armenia will host over 100,000 fans.
“This is a really big event, because, in fact, it is the second most important tournament in its significance after the World Cup for adults. The plan is still preliminary and may be subject to some changes. But it is planned that up to 20 games will be held in Yerevan, and up to 10 games in Vanadzor and Ijevan together,” the minister noted, emphasizing the importance of proper preparation for such a large-scale event.
Also, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport recalled that last year the government had already made a number of decisions on the development of stadium infrastructure in Armenia.
Zhanna Andreasyan added that FIFA colleagues will visit Armenia in the near future, during which the roadmap for the upcoming events related to the holding of the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup will be discussed.
In turn, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, underscored the holding of such a major sports event in Armenia, and emphasized the need for proper and coordinated implementation of the respective work, especially in infrastructure development, road construction, and tourism promotion.
