For more than 30 years, there has been a struggle for justice and for the European Union not to forget about its mission. The first Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Larisa Alaverdyan, stated this during a protest rally being held in parallel with the 8th European Political Community Summit underway Monday in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

“Shame. Your name will remain as ‘bloody Ursula’ [i.e. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen]. Do not forget, your name will only be remembered like that, because until today you serve only and only those centers that pay you, and you have not closed your eyes, but your souls. You still cannot recognize the truth in Nagorno-Karabakh,” Alaverdyan added.

Also, the protesters had prepared a statement to be delivered to the summit participants, but the police did not allow them to do so.

One of the other participants of the demonstration, in turn, stated that their goal was to show the real picture of Nagorno-Karabakh after its occupation by Azerbaijan.

According to this protester, more than 1,000 cases of vandalism against Armenian cultural heritage have been recorded to date in the territories that came under the control of Azerbaijan after the 44-day war in 2020 in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to available information, the descendants of the so-called “Caucasian Tatars” have completely destroyed 7 Armenian churches and 15 villages. “The historical district of [Nagorno-Karabakh capital] Stepanakert has been almost completely destroyed, and the so-called ‘Victory Park’ has been built on its site. Historical [Armenian] districts have also been destroyed in Shushi and Hadrut [towns],” said one of the protest participants.
