A protest rally, titled “Yes to Democracy, No to Hypocrisy,” is taking place Monday in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

Also, the protesters marched to the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, where the eighth summit of the European Political Community is being held.

The demonstration is being carried out in defense of Armenian captives held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and political prisoners in Yerevan.

“We call on high-ranking European officials not to turn a blind eye to the regression of democracy and the establishment of an already blatant one-man dictatorship in Armenia. Today, we have dozens of political prisoners in Armenia, people are being tried on trumped-up cases, criminal cases are being initiated against people, they are being detained on illogical charges,” said opposition MP Artur Khachatryan.

According to him, the aforementioned march aims to draw the attention of the European community to Azerbaijan's policy towards Armenian captives held in Baku.

"The [Armenian] people of Artsakh [i.e. Nagorno-Karabakh] have been subjected to genocide and ethnic cleansing [by Azerbaijan], and the civilized world has the duty to ensure their safe, collective, and unhindered return to [their] homeland. We also have compatriots in Baku prisons, and clear steps must be taken towards their quick release," the Armenian opposition lawmaker added.
