The entire agenda of Armenia-EU relations, as well as humanitarian issues, including the return of Armenian captives in Azerbaijan, were discussed within the framework of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am on Tuesday.

According to him, the discussions during the summit included both economic cooperation and communications, as well as political and security issues.

"Yesterday, during the summit, the matters of the possible return of captives, prisoners of war, and other detained [Armenian] persons [in Azerbaijan] and the efforts being made in this direction were discussed both in the closed part of the summit and during bilateral meetings, since there were no public statements," Kostanyan noted.

The deputy foreign minister of Armenia added that the plenary and roundtable discussions of the summit had a clear thematic focus, covering hybrid threats, democratic resistance, as well as communications, energy and green transformations.

Touching upon the possible progress on the matter of Armenian captives in Azerbaijan, Kostanyan noted that it is constantly raised at the highest level.

“The last two-three years have shown that bilateral negotiations with the Azerbaijani side have been more effective and yielded results. Work in this direction continues,” he said.

Speaking about Monday’s statements of the Azerbaijani president, the deputy foreign minister of Armenia noted that they were made not on the “Armenian platform,” but on the platform of the European Political Community.

“Our positions are clear, there is no change here,” added Kostanyan.

Touching upon the topic of hybrid threats and possible interference in electoral processes, he noted that Armenia cooperates with the European Union in a number of directions.

"It is about cybersecurity, information security, as well as the fight against illegal financial flows. This cooperation is aimed at ensuring the transparency and fairness of elections in Armenia. There can be no question of any other interference," concluded the deputy foreign minister of Armenia.
