Peugeot is considering the possibility of releasing a sports version of the e-308 GTi after the electric e-208 Gti, reports Autocar. Peugeot CEO Alain Favey said in an interview with Autocar that they are considering the possibility of releasing a “hot” version of the electric hatchback.

The legendary sports GTi index will return in June in the form of the e-208 GTi model. The car will be presented during the Le Mans 24 Hours race. According to Favey, the company intends to develop a range of “charged” electric cars and is considering the e-308 among the possible candidates.

“I would love to have a range of GTis, of course, so we're looking at options, possibilities with the technology that we have,” said Favey. “For sure, we want a GTi to be really something special, something really top in terms of what it promises. The 308 would obviously make a lot of sense.” At the same time, Favey stressed that the creation of the e-308 GTi is associated with a number of difficulties. The main task is to find a technological solution that will allow maintaining a balance between productivity and affordability.

“It's difficult to find technology that will allow us to get there at a price that is still affordable,” he said. “That's what we struggle to achieve at the moment - to find the technology and the right price balance.”

Earlier it was reported that the Vauxhall brand, which is part of Stellantis, plans to release an electric “hot” version of the Astra GSE, as well as the Mokka GSE and Corsa GSE models. Answering the question about expanding the GTi range, Favey noted that, unlike some competitors, Peugeot does not plan to release sports versions in the crossover segment. “I don't think [an] SUV as a GTi makes a lot of sense,” he said.

Separate attention was paid to the future e-208 GTi. After the “charged” 308 is discontinued in 2021, it is considered to be the first electric car with this index and the brand’s first GTi. According to Favey, there is already great interest in the car, although some questions arise among fans of the brand about the transition to an electric engine. The Peugeot CEO emphasized that with a capacity of about 280 horsepower and an improved powertrain, the e-208 GTi should prove that electric cars can really be a pleasure to drive.
