The Zhoghovurd daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: Today is May 28, Republic Day [anniversary], a national holiday symbolizing the declaration of independence of the First Republic of Armenia in 1918. This is a day of national, nationwide significance, which is usually celebrated with military parades, fireworks, concerts and parades, since it belongs to the entire Armenian people, and not to any political force.

However, as it turns out, this year's festive military parade does not symbolize national awakening and unity for the current authorities, but has turned into a narrow partisan, a CC [i.e. the ruling Civil Contract Party and its parliamentary faction] "revelry."

The Zhoghovurd daily contacted the opposition MPs of the NA [(National Assembly)] "Armenia" Faction to find out whether they received an official invitation or notification to participate in the festive event or not. The picture is ridiculous, to put it mildly: not a single MP from the faction was aware of any invitation. And the problem is not that they did not notice; there is simply no letter that they would notice.

Taguhi Tovmasyan from the [opposition] “With Honor” Faction informed that she did not receive a personal invitation from any department, but she is aware that an information circular was sent to the faction about the event. (...).

For comparison, let us note that during [the rule of] the previous “corrupt, violent, undemocratic” authorities [in Armenia], invitations were sent to any state and national event at a proper and high level, regardless of whether the person had oppositional or pro-government views. Even in many cases, the extra-parliamentary opposition was invited to national, state holidays.

Let us note that after 2021 [parliament elections], the CC has actually usurped the parliament, where the opposition has no levers of governance, which is an unprecedented thing in the history of the [Armenian] national parliament. There are no opposition vice-speakers, committee chairs, or vice-chairs in the democratic, parliamentary Armenia. The NA has turned into an appendage of the CC.
