It seems that Alfa Romeo is finally returning to what fans of the brand have been waiting for for many years: a new compact hatchback in the spirit of the legendary Giulietta. The company is preparing a completely new C-segment model, a competitor to the Volkswagen Golf, and with both gasoline and electric versions at once, Autocar reports.
The most interesting thing is the sharp turn in the brand's strategy. Until recently, Alfa Romeo was actively talking about an almost complete transition to electric cars, but now Stellantis is betting on the "multi-energy" STLA One platform, which enables it to release both internal combustion engine versions and an electric car on the same architecture.
The new hatchback will share the technical base with the next generations of the Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra, but Alfa promises to retain its own character: a more emotional design and sporty settings.
Judging by the first renders and the company's reviews, the designers are clearly trying to return the spirit of the old 147 and Giulietta models, which were once considered some of the most beautiful hatchbacks in Europe.
For Alfa Romeo, this is also an attempt to return to the segment that the brand left after the Giulietta was discontinued in 2020. At that time, the company decided to focus on sports utility vehicles, but the market was not so clear.
Interest in stylish compact hatchbacks in Europe is still very high. There are no official photos and technical specifications yet, but the concept itself already seems symbolic.
Alfa Romeo seems to be trying to remember what it was once loved for most: beautiful, emotional, and slightly crazy cars, not just crossovers and marketing strategies.
