This is our demand, it is not a handover of the road, but a redrawing of the border. Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party MP candidate, National Assembly speaker Alen Simonyan stated this during the parliamentary election debate on Public Television on Monday.
This was how Simonyan responded to the rhetorical question of Anna Grigoryan, an MP candidate of the “Armenia” bloc, about who handed over the Goris-Kapan and Kapan-Chakaten motorways to Azerbaijan.
“People should not be lied to,” Simonyan added. The aforementioned motorways passed under Azerbaijan’s monitoring after the 44-day war in 2020 that Baku had unleashed against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Simonyan added that there was never any talk on an agenda about the return of 300,000 Azerbaijanis to Armenia.
