The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has strongly condemned the “aggressive acts” carried out by the US against an Iranian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and a telecommunications tower on Qeshm island, warning that the Islamic Republic will use “all possible capabilities” to defend its territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

Iran’s MFA said that these attacks were carried out early Wednesday morning from the territory of two countries in the region. The MFA stressed that these attacks are a gross violation of the April 8 ceasefire agreement, as well as a clear violation of international law and Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force.

The statement also condemned the United States’ “colonial use” of the territories and facilities of regional states to carry out hostile actions against Iran. The Iranian MFA specifically pointed to the “direct and clear accountability” of the leaders of Kuwait and Bahrain for the nighttime attacks.

The Iranian MFA stressed that any country that allows its land, airspace, waters, or military facilities to be used to support aggression against Iran violates the fundamental principles of international law and good neighborliness, and such actions fall within the definition of “aggression” set forth in UN General Assembly resolution 3314.

Also, Iran reiterated that it reserves the inalienable right to self-defense, including striking at the sources and locations of hostile attacks.
