The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia (RA) has dismissed the information published Thursday by the Hraparak daily that the country’s greenhouse owners allegedly “revolted” in the office of the minister of economy.

“We consider it necessary to emphasize that the meeting with representatives of greenhouse farms was held in a constructive and practical atmosphere. The problems and challenges existing in the sector were discussed, the concerns and suggestions of the businessmen were presented, and a needs assessment was carried out.

During the meeting, RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan not only presented the options for solving the existing problems, but also announced that they will soon be formulated in the form of specific state support programs.

Today already, a support program will be adopted at the Government session, which will subsidize the export of greenhouse products: tomatoes, peppers, strawberries and flowers.

In addition, customs duties being paid for fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers being exported [from Armenia] to the European Union countries will be refunded.

A separate program for subsidizing the export of fresh fruit will be presented next," the respective statement from the Ministry of Economy of Armenia says, in particular.
