Iravunk daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: According to well-informed sources of Iravunk, another conspiracy is being developed against the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and, as always, from within the Mother See [of Holy Etchmiadzin].

The same circles that were enthusiastic about the change of power implemented by [PM] Nikol Pashinyan in 2018 and were encouraging His Holiness to please him [i.e. Pashinyan] in every way, now, having become strongly anti-Nikol and carried away by pre-election euphoria, are once again putting the Catholicos in an uncomfortable position with their “PR advice.” Of course, they are packaging this as if a spiritual penny to remove these authorities [from power], but in reality, it is a stab in the back.

According to our sources, in some closed rooms, an idea has flashed in the minds of some that if there is no change of power in the [parliamentary] elections [to be held on Sunday], a real revolutionary wave can be generated in the streets only in the event of the arrest of His Holiness.

That is why all sides are rendering “disservices” to His Holiness, dragging him into the political and personal interests of certain narrow circles as much as possible.

Meanwhile, Nikol Pashinyan is trying to bypass Karekin II as much as possible during his [parliamentary election] campaign.

In fact, a paradoxical situation is emerging: the spiritual-opposition circles are trying in every way to remove the Catholicos, even arresting [him], in order to ensure sharp post-election emotions. But for Nikol Pashinyan, the exact opposite, it is not a favorable scenario.
