The US has submitted to NATO a list of its military equipment that it no longer plans to provide to the alliance, reports Welt.

The changes will affect the NATO Force Model system, through which the alliance determines in advance what forces it is ready to quickly transfer to the front line in a short period of time, from 10 days to 6 months.

Washington wants to reduce its military aviation and the navy the most in NATO. Accordingly, the US is going to reduce the number of its multifunctional F-16 fighters from 99 to 63, and the number of its F-15E fighter-bombers from 54 to 36. Refueling aircraft will also be subject to reductions, as the US wants to reduce the number of its KC-135s from 71 to 63, and remove all 8 units of the most modern KC-46s from the list.

US maritime reconnaissance aviation and unmanned aerial vehicles will also be reduced in NATO. The number of P-8A Poseidon aircraft intended for maritime patrol will be reduced from 26 to 15. Also, the US intends to withdraw all long-range reconnaissance drones, and the number of large MQ-9 Reaper drones will be reduced by almost half.

In addition, NATO will be able to rely on only one of its two aircraft carrier strike groups, will be left without American submarines capable of launching cruise missiles, as well as almost half of the cruiser and destroyer units for air defense, missile defense, missile strikes, and fleet escort. One of the two bomber units will remain.

The US wants Europe and Canada to fill these gaps faster with their own forces. US Air Force General Alexus Grynkewich, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, stated this after a meeting of the alliance's military planners.
