Third President Serzh Sargsyan noted that he had never seen such unprecedented interference by the incumbent authorities of Armenia in the course of the election campaign. Sargsyan announced this to the media after voting in Sunday’s parliamentary election.

Sargsyan recalled that he had participated in more than ten elections, but had not seen such interference.

“This is an unprecedented use of state resources and funds, they are distributing them with eyes closed,” the former Armenian president noted.

When asked whether to expect a super-heavy activeness from European observers, he answered negatively.

“It will not happen. They turned a blind eye because their leaders have specific goals and made great efforts, publicly and without hiding [it], at the highest level,” Sargsyan said.

Commenting on the question of whether he knows Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan well enough to say whether he will be able to hand over power without upheaval if he does not win, Sargsyan said that he does not know him well enough.

“I have never exchanged even a few words with him. But if the opposition wins, no one can take away their votes,” said the former president of Armenia.
