The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia will recap the results of the June 7 National Assembly (parliament) elections in accordance with the procedure and within the timeframe set by the electoral code and will make a decision on June 14, the CEC announced Friday.

The respective statement notes that the CEC shall make one of the following decisions:

1) On the new National Assembly being elected and the distribution of respective mandates.

2) On the preliminary distribution of mandates of MPs of the new National Assembly.

3) On appointing a re-voting in separate polling stations.

4) On declaring the National Assembly elections invalid and appointing a re-voting of the elections.

5) On declaring the re-voting of the National Assembly elections invalid. In this case, the President of Armenia shall appoint a new regular election of the National Assembly.

“At this point, any official CEC comment on the situation may be perceived as a biased opinion, so we urge to wait for the final recap of the voting results on June 14. The [respective] session will be broadcast live, it will be open also to coverage—as well as to those entities that have the right to attend CEC sessions. Immediately after the session, the CEC chairman will hold a press conference,” the CEC added in its statement.

The CEC on Thursday made a decision to invalidate the parliamentary elections results in two polling stations—35/65 and 10/51. According to the CEC, the number of voters in those constituencies was recorded as the total number of inaccuracies.

Syunik Province’s 35/65 polling station was where voting was ongoing for a long time after 20:00, as servicemen were voting there. The day after the election, CEC chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan said he did not see a problem with this, noting that the soldiers had entered the polling station before 20:00, and therefore had the right to vote and leave.

As a result of that decision, the Prosperous Armenia Party lost 213 votes, which could lead to it not receiving the minimum threshold of 4 percent of the votes and not entering in parliament.
