US President Donald Trump said he was not concerned about the prospect of impeachment after Democrats won the midterm elections and gained control of both chambers of Congress, the New York Post reported.

Trump said that an attempt to remove him from office without sufficient grounds would result in a political collapse for the Democratic Party.

Asked by reporters whether the prospect of impeachment worried him, Trump replied that he was not concerned in the slightest.

He said he believed impeachment would destroy the Democratic Party if it went ahead with such a move, as there would be no grounds for it. Trump questioned what he could be impeached for, suggesting that it would be for the country’s successful performance.

Trump spoke to reporters on November 4 during an event at the construction site of the White House’s new ballroom. It was his first public appearance since the midterm elections, in which Republicans lost control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The president also expressed his willingness to work with Democrats in Congress, but warned that he would use his veto power if he considered their actions destructive.

Trump said he would probably be able to get along with Democrats unless they sought to act destructively, adding that he had the power to veto legislation.
