The economic commitee of the RA Parliament chaired by Vardan Aivazyan has been the most effective of the 12 parliamentary commissions. Also, it has “as few as” 20 MPs as its members.

This year the committee has considered over 90 bills. Aivazyan said that the committee members have been active in various international parliamentary agencies. Without appraising the committee’s activities, he said: “I can only say we have worked hard,” he said. Referring to the Government’s estimates, he said that the state budget will get an additional 50 to 80 billion AMD due to reforms.

The committee is now considering the bill on products subjected to compulsory excise taxation. “It is a most important document which may cause great excitement. It will play a great role in bringing the Armenian economy out of the shadow,” Aivazyan said. Another 40 bills are on the committee’s 2011 agenda, he said.

One of the achievements is that taxes have not been raised this year. Aivazyan also underlined the need for improving Armenia’s business environment, struggling against oligopolies and creating law enforcement mechanisms.
