The European Commission does not support the idea of abolishing the EU European External Action Service (EEAS), dismissing its head Kaja Kallas, and transferring the entire EU foreign policy to the jurisdiction of European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission chief spokesperson Paula Pinho has claimed.

The EEAS is part of the EU institutions that implements EU policies, so it enjoys the support of the European Commission in its work, Pinho said at a press briefing, answering the question of whether the European Commission supports the abolition of the EEAS.

Also, she claimed that the European Commission does not plan to hold a discussion on this topic at the level of the College of Commissioners for the time being. At the same time, Pinho noted that the European Commission fully supports the idea of depriving EU countries of their veto power in foreign policy, which sometimes prevents the EU from moving forward on key issues.

Earlier, several European media outlets, including the Financial Times and Reuters, reported on a proposed reform of the EU diplomatic service by leading EU countries to strengthen the community's position on the international stage.

One of the scenarios for these reforms included the dissolution of the EEAS, the dismissal of Kallas, and the transfer of EU foreign policy powers to von der Leyen.
