YEREVAN. – The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Campaign Headquarters is following the course of Sunday’s National Assembly elections, and, in case of receiving election violation reports, it is applying to the relevant agencies to verify their authenticity, RPA Press Secretary Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“At present, the elections are proceeding normally, under conditions that meet democratic standards, [and] in a positive moral and psychological climate,” he noted.

As per the RPA Press Secretary, there are some reports on election violations, and the competent agencies are responding to them.

In Eduard Sharmazanov’s words, the authorities have created all conditions for holding fair, free, and transparent elections.

“I have called upon everyone to put hysterical, disorderly emotions aside and to peacefully hold elections,” he noted.

And the RPA Campaign Headquarters informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that it has a four-level system of headquarters: local, district, regional, and central.

Incidentally, RPA leader—and Armenia’s President—Serzh Sargsyan was not at the Headquarters at the time, but he should arrive there in the evening.

The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is a ruling conservative party in Armenia, founded on 2 April, 1990, and registered on 14 May, 1991, being the first officially registered sociopolitical organization in the independent Republic of Armenia.

The founder of the party was Ashot Navasardyan. After his death the party was headed by former Prime Minister, very influential political figure, Vazgen Sargsyan, who was killed in the 1999 terrorist attack at the parliament. He was replaced by another Premier, Andranik Margaryan. After Margaryan’s death, the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan took the office of the RPA Board Chairman.

Since 2003, the Republican Party is a core member of the ruling coalition, along with the Prosperous Armenia and Orinats Yerkir parties. RPA has majority of the parliamentary seats since 2003.

The Republican Party of Armenia runs in Sunday’s parliamentary elections under its new slogan: “Let us believe to change!”

The Party’s proportional list includes 253 names.

RPA has also nominated MP candidates with the majority election system in 33 constituencies.
