The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia, at its meeting today, also adopted a decision on the distribution of seats in the new National Assembly (parliament).

CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan said that the decision on the election of the new parliament and the distribution of its seats is made if, according to the election results, one of the parties and alliances participating in the elections received the majority of the total number of distributed seats.

According to the CEC chairman, the following political forces participate in the distribution of seats:

Currently ruling Civil Contract Party, which received 726,818 votes or 49.7456%,

Strong Armenia Alliance – 340,006 votes or 23.2710%

"Armenia" Alliance – 144,983 votes or 9.9231%.

Accordingly, Civil Contract receives 61 seats

Strong Armenia – 28 seats.

"Armenia" Alliance – 12 seats.

In addition, three of the four national minority seats go to Civil Contract, whose number of seats reaches 64.

This is, in particular, about the Yazidi, Russian, and Kurdish minorities. And the Assyrian minority seats go to Strong Armenia, whose number of seats becomes 29.

CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan, presenting the decision, noted that it can be appealed to the Constitutional Court until 18:00 on the fifth day after the decision was published.

The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) did not pass the 4 percent threshold to enter parliament, receiving 3.98 percent of the vote. The PAP was demanding a re-vote in the three election precincts where the election results were declared invalid.

However, the CEC considered that the decision to declare the election results in those three precincts invalid did not affect the election results.
