YEREVAN.- The elections are proceeding normally and obserevrs have not noticed any serious violations so far, the head of International expert Center for Electoral Systems (ICES) Alexander Tsinker said.

To note, on Sunday parliamentary elections are being held in Armenia.

According to him, in some electoral districts, for example in Vanadzor, there were more observers than voters. Another advantage of the current parliamentary elections is the installment of cameras at poling stations.

“It is true that in some places it seemed that the voters are being ‘helped’. But, in general the elections are passing normally,” Tsinker said, mentioning that the results of observations will be announced at a press conference on Monday.

In total, 31,418 observers from 53 local organizations and 647 representatives from 11 international organizations and embassies accredited in Armenia are monitoring the parliamentary elections.

Eight political parties and one block have presented their nominations – Republican Party of Armenian, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir, opposition Armenian National Congress, opposition Heritage Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the Communist Party of Armenia, Democratic Party of Armenia and United Armenians Party.

For entering a 131-seat National Assembly, parties must poll over 5% of votes, while blocks - over 7%.
