The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated Sunday in the territory of the “"Mother Armenia" Military History Museum in Yerevan’s Victory Park, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia and the Embassy of India in Armenia.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Artur Martirosyan, and the Ambassador of India to Armenia, Nilakshi Saha Sinha, also attended the event and delivered welcoming remarks..
Yoga has long gone beyond the realm of physical movements and sports, and has become a universal symbol of human inner harmony, spiritual balance and a healthy lifestyle. Yoga has maintained its vitality over the centuries and has spread throughout the world, including in Armenia, said the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, and underscored the significant development and expansion of relations between Armenia and India in recent years.
Yoga is much more than physical fitness. It is a timeless philosophy that nurtures the harmony of body, mind and soul, while fostering a deeper connection with nature, said Nilakshi Saha Sinha, Ambassador of India to Armenia.
During the event, yoga experts demonstrated various yoga postures and explained their significance to those in attendance and yoga enthusiasts.
In 2014, the UN General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. Armenia was among the 179 countries that voted in favor of the respective resolution. Since 2015, International Day of Yoga has been celebrated all over the world. Yoga means union between the individual and the essence of the universe, and its main idea is peace and non-violence.
