YEREVAN. – The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) positively evaluates the results of Sunday’s National Assembly (NA) elections, RPA NA MP Hovhannes Sahakyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Just as we pledged, fair, transparent elections were truly held, and this was not one but two steps forward,” he noted, and added that they carried out democratic and civilized campaign and elections.

“These elections are the first phase of our people’s hope toward the restoration of trust, justice. We still have the presidential elections, which will be the second phase. In these 4-5 years we will have a constantly growing and establishing society, state, and people,” Hovhannes Sahakyan said.

“The people themselves have decided, they have voted. I assess this picture as an expression of the will of the people,” he noted.

Hovhannes Sahakyan also maintained that once the new NA is formed and the country’s President consults with the political forces and considers it expedient to form a new coalition, it will be formed.

In line with preliminary official results, the RPA has received 663,066, or 44.05 percent, of the votes.
