Hraparak daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in particular: During the pre-[parliament] election phase, we saw how the apolitical army and defense system were politicized, CC [i.e. the ruling Civil Contract party]-ized, and how defense minister Suren Papikyan became an active campaigner; but in his native Stepanavan [city], CC received the fewest votes.

During the pre-election phase, they [i.e. the Armenian authorities] used the truncheon of [military] training exercises as a political tool, making participation in the 25-day round-ups a means of punishment for RA citizens or oppositionists who arrived from abroad.

And they used army once on May 28, holding a military parade and using it for PR purposes. The army's participation was also significant on voting day [on June 7], when soldiers were being taken in a row to polling stations by officers, even after the end of voting hours.

There are processes related to the army even after the elections. In particular, we were told that the voting results in one of the military units did not satisfy the authorities, and now the army leadership is investigating which commander's precinct recorded "bad" results.

We were told that the commander of the second corps, General Garegin Poghosyan, a native of Javakheti [region of Georgia], was “working” most vigorously in this direction.

Yesterday we learned about another case, too: in Stepanavan, Papikyan signed an illegal order to demobilize the two children—who are career military personnel—of a PAP [i.e. Prosperous Armenia Party] member woman.
