The situation in Armenia will stabilize after the recent parliamentary elections, there are prerequisites for this, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Secretary General Sergey Lebedev told reporters.

When asked whether there are now any prerequisites for the situation in Armenia to stabilize after the June 7 parliamentary elections in the country, Lebedev gave a positive answer.

“Yes, I think there are, because Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Vovayevich Pashinyan has stated that they are not going to leave the EAEU [i.e. the Eurasian Economic Union] at this time. There is no question of the CIS at all, they [i.e. Armenia] remain within our structure,” the CIS chief said.

Lebedev noted that the plenipotentiary representative of Armenia was present at today's CIS Economic Council meeting, and participated and signed the documents.

“We hope that everything will be fine,” the CIS Secretary General added.
