YEREVAN. – The Armenian opposition’s entry to the National Assembly (NA) would mean concurrence with the May 6 parliamentary election results, stated Yerevan’s Caucasus Institute Director, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan, during a press conference on Tuesday.  

He recalled that the side which suffered a defeat during all of Armenia’s previous elections has refused to accept their results. 

“If the opposition agrees to enter the Parliament as a result of these elections, an altogether different political situation will be created,” the analyst noted.

In his words, the new Parliament will be more political-party-oriented and fragmented.

Alexander Iskandaryan remarked that, as a result of the previous elections, the opposition was represented in the NA with approximately six MPs.

“If the opposition’s voice does not reach where it is supposed to, it goes to the street,” the analyst said. 

In Iskandaryan’s words, now the opposition will be represented on a wider scale, whereas the constituents will be small and apathetic.

“In this sense the Parliament will be livelier,” the political analyst maintained.  

To note, Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission has issued the preliminary results of the May 6 parliamentary elections. Five parties and one political bloc will be represented in the 131-seat National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia: Republican Party of Armenia – 44.05% (663,066 votes), Prosperous Armenia Party – 30.20% (454,684 votes), Armenian National Congress – 7.10% (106,910 votes), Heritage Party – 5.79% (87,095 votes), ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party – 5.73% (86, 296 votes), and Orinats Yerkir Party – 5.49% (82,690 votes).
