Interesting finds have been discovered during the ongoing restoration and cleaning at the Amberd Fortress Historical and Cultural Reserve, the Protection Service SNCO reports.

In particular, a human skeleton was found on the outer side of the inner tower wall of the fortress, about one meter east of the central section.

Nearly 90 percent of the bones are in place, and only the fingers were missing.

It is assumed from the dentition that this person was young, and compared to the leg bones, this person was about 1.80 meters, which was quite tall for that time.

But that’s not all. Relics of the game of Tama—similar to checkers, which are evidence of—alleged— pastime in the Middle Ages, and a coin of exceptional value belonging to Queen Tamar were also discovered during the cleaning.

Cleaning and excavation continue at Amberd, revealing new details about the history and existence of this fortress.
