Past daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: The situation created in Armenia’s post-[parliamentary] election political field once again records the imperative of rearranging the opposition field and uniting forces.
Amid a certain apathy being observed among the public after the electoral processes and the administrative resource and total pressure being applied by the current authorities, the formation of a united front is gaining key importance on the political agenda. In this context, the consolidation process initiated by the leader of the Strong Armenia Alliance, Samvel Karapetyan, has become the focus of attention of public and political circles.
Information circulating in the press and the political backstage prove that the [Armenian opposition’s] consolidation process is currently in the active beginning and formation phase. Although the parties still maintain a certain restraint in public statements, according to representatives of various opposition units, including the "Armenia" Alliance and the Prosperous Armenia Party, quite intensive discussions, contacts, and working meetings are in progress in various formats.
It is obvious that in the difficult conditions created, the initiative of consolidation announced by Samvel Karapetyan is becoming the most important and vital move in the political field [of Armenia]. It is aimed at filling the vacuum that arose in the post-election period, and has all the prerequisites to turn into a unified axis of [opposition] political forces.
Experience shows that separately working units are often not effective, while this broad consolidation can be the backbone around which a real opportunity to establish legitimate power in the country will be formed. The upcoming developments, in particular, the expected meetings of the [opposition’s] first figures after the decision of the Constitutional Court [regarding whether to invalidate the results of the June 7 parliamentary election], will more clearly show the final format of this process and the next steps of the opposition.
