De facto peace has been established between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated this during a joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Baku, Azerbaijani media report.

Aliyev added that Azerbaijan is the main trading partner of the European Union in the South Caucasus.

According to him, there are ample opportunities to further strengthen cooperation and bring it to a new phase with the efforts of both sides.

“We [i.e. Azerbaijan] highly value the relationship with the European Commission, and today, with Madame President and the delegations, we broadly discussed a very impressive agenda. The European Union is Azerbaijan's main trading partner. More than 40 percent of our trade is with the member states, and for the European Union, Azerbaijan is the main trading partner in the South Caucasus. Almost 70 percent of trade in the South Caucasus is trade with Azerbaijan,” the Azerbaijani president stated, in particular.
