European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who has arrived in Armenia on a working visit today, advised Yerevan on how to avoid an energy crisis in the event that Russia stops its natural gas supplies to, or raises its price in, Armenia. The advice was given during a joint press briefing in Yerevan with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

At first, von der Leyen announced the need to have an appropriate strategy and added that the EU wants to help Armenia diversify its energy supplies. And for this purpose, a group of European experts will visit Armenia.

The EU has rich experience, the European diplomat said, citing the experience gained in Ukraine and Moldova, as well as in Europe itself.

According to her, investments are needed in energy security, the creation of new power lines, and new networks in Armenia.

For its part, the EU will allocate 25 million euros to assist these objectives and the development of Armenia's domestic potential in the renewable energy sector, and this will provide the country with greater energy independence.
