In the implementation of promising logistics routes passing through the northern regions of Armenia, Yerevan relies on a strategic partnership with Washington, while Brussels has no direct connection with this initiative.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a press briefing today, answering a question about the European Union's (EU) position on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) regional transport project. The Armenian premier called for a clear separation of international logistics directions and clarified that Armenia is negotiating with another geopolitical power over this route, and the concept itself can radically change the transit potential of the region.

"We [i.e. Armenia] are working with the United States of America within the framework of the TRIPP project. I have repeatedly said during the pre-election period that studies have revealed the shortest route between the East and the West, which passes through the territory of Armenia, in particular, through Tavush, Lori, and Shirak Provinces.

The simplest way to implement this program is to open the motorways of Ghazakh-Ijevan, Vanadzor, Gyumri, Akhurik for international freight transportation on a paid basis. This is a very easily implemented project, which requires political agreements and the opening of borders.

Such a project can be of great regional interest. Of course, we will need to build a small section of the road in Akhurik, but it is completely feasible. As for the TRIPP project, we are advancing it with the US, and there is no specific involvement of the European Union here.

I do not quite understand why Brussels should participate there if we are already implementing the program with the American side, although the EU's position on this issue is certainly positive,” said the prime minister of Armenia.
