YEREVAN. – There was no region, during Armenia’s May 6 National Assembly elections, where there was a 100-percent voter turnout. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan stated this, during a press conference on Wednesday, commenting on the opposition representatives’ claims that there was a 100-percent and greater voter turnout at several constituencies.

As per Mukuchyan, such turnout was recorded solely at nine precincts, and these are only preliminary data. It became apparent that the CEC had posted on web all data received from the constituency electoral commissions, and, in most likelihood, that is why certain inaccuracies were recorded.

“No substantial violation or deviation was found after the inspections. Ballot stuffing and violations would have clearly appeared during the recount,” Tigran Mukuchyan said.

To note, Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission has issued the preliminary results of the May 6 parliamentary elections. Five parties and one political bloc will be represented in the 131-seat National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia: Republican Party of Armenia – 44.05% (663,066 votes), Prosperous Armenia Party – 30.20% (454,684 votes), Armenian National Congress – 7.10% (106,910 votes), Heritage Party – 5.79% (87,095 votes), ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party – 5.73% (86, 296 votes), Orinats Yerkir Party – 5.49% (82,690 votes), Communist Party of Armenia – 1.06% (15,933 votes), Democratic Party of Armenia – 0.37% (5,633 votes), and United Armenians Party – 0.20% (3,080 votes),

For entering the 131-seat National Assembly (Parliament), the parties must poll over 5% of votes, while blocs - over 7%. In other words, five political parties and one bloc will enter the Armenian National Assembly.

And with the majority election system, the Republican Party of Armenia received 29 and the Prosperous Armenia Party received 8 seats. ARF Dashnaktsutyun and Orinats Yerkir parties received one mandate apiece. Two independent MPs also will enter the Parliament.
