YEREVAN. – The opposition is always dissatisfied, Armenian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Samvel Nikoyan told news reporters Wednesday at capital Yerevan’s Victory Park, where he had come to pay tribute to those Armenians who lost their lives during World War II.

In his words, the opposition’s dissatisfaction is conditioned on the fact that it was anticipating an altogether different results, form the May 6 NA elections, and it did not receive the number of votes it expected.  

Also, Nikoyan said he considers it normal the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress’ initiative to apply to the Constitutional Court with a request to cancel the election results.   

“This is their constitutional right,” he said.

Commenting on the voting results, Samvel Nikoyan stressed the importance of people’s making a choice.  

“Numerous international observers issued their assessment. I understand that there are dissatisfied [political] parties and political forces, but it is the people who choose,” NA Speaker said, and added that such free, transparent and democratic elections were never held in Armenia.    

He confessed, however, that there were some shortcomings in these elections during the vote counting, and stated that all efforts will be exerted to eliminate them in the coming presidential elections.
