U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Turkey this week as part of a renewed effort to move closer to ending the war in Ukraine, a senior U.S. administration official told Reuters on Sunday.

According to him, Trump will arrive at the summit on Tuesday and will first hold a meeting with the host, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and a White House press conference are also scheduled.

The official noted that the meeting between Trump and Zelensky will take place on Wednesday and will focus on finding ways to end the conflict.

"The fighting has clearly stalled over the past couple of months, and neither side is making meaningful progress. The president feels a real urgency to try to stop this," he said.

In addition, Trump intends to urge NATO allies to increase defense spending, the administration official added.
