100 people were killed and another 340 suffered gunshot wounds over the three days of U.S. Independence Day celebrations, the non-governmental organization Gun Violence Archive reports.

“Over the July 4 weekend, there were 20 mass shootings, close to a record high. This had not happened since the record year of 2021. The total number of people injured or killed in shootings over the weekend was 100 dead and 340 wounded,” the organization said in a post on X.

Gun Violence Archive notes that the data are preliminary and may change later.
