International partnership in the field of human rights protection plays a key role. This was stated at a meeting between Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan, who is on a working visit to Strasbourg, and European Ombudsman Teresa Anjinho.

As reported to NEWS.am by the press service of the republic’s Human Rights Defender, during the meeting a number of issues related to the field of human rights protection and of mutual interest were discussed.

The parties touched upon the importance of observing guarantees of the independence of national human rights institutions, emphasizing the crucial nature of the independence of ombudsman institutions, the inadmissibility of any interference in the activities of the Human Rights Defender in any form, as well as the unacceptability, from the point of view of international standards, of legislative regulations and law enforcement practices that create the possibility for such interference.

Manasyan and Anjinho confirmed their readiness to further expand cooperation and deepen ties between the two institutions even more.
