Military appropriations in the European Union’s seven-year budget for 2028-2034 will exceed €200 billion. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen while speaking at the Defense Industry Forum on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.

“The new long-term EU budget will include allocations of €131 billion for military capabilities and €71 billion for military mobility (the modernization of roads, bridges, and tunnels for the transport of military cargo and heavy military equipment across Europe),” von der Leyen said.

She also recalled EU programs to support the military spending of European Union member states, which, in her view, could mobilize up to €950 billion across the EU for military needs by 2030.

The EU’s seven-year budget for 2028-2034 will become the first in the bloc’s history to include such a significant volume of military spending.
